In modern political geography in Russia the problem of application of the spatial-temporal approach is more and more actual. The theory of diffusion of innovations and the spatio-temporal analysis of innovations have been known since the mid-1960s, but their use in the domestic scientific literature is minimal. The paper makes an attempt to use various spatial and temporal approaches to the study of political innovations. The application of the diffusion approach contributes to the expansion of the possibilities of political geography. Taking into account the chronological factor makes it possible to move from the analysis of individual events and states to the study of holistic political processes. For the qualitative analysis of electoral processes, political changes such approaches are applicable and allow to receive strict scientifically meaningful result. The research can be interesting for a wide category of readers.
