This book is a challenge to classification principles of monologue discourse which have tended to give prominence to audience analysis over the input of speakers. I proffer arguments to show how speaker intention is manifested in the structural elements of language which in turn can be used to classify these discourses. I have used my own mother tongue - Lubukusu - as the language of illustration, and as a way of giving back to my own society the skills I have honed in linguistics.
