Based on the theoretical assumptions of Aristotelian Rhetoric and its revision, the New Rhetoric, developed by Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca (1958), the work studies the argumentative triad and surveys the argumentative techniques present in three speeches by the President of the Republic, Dilma Rousseff. These speeches, transcribed and made available by the Press Office of the Presidency of the Federative Republic of Brazil, are a rich political narrative, which makes it possible to examine the arguments, classify them and understand their articulation in an attempt to measure their persuasive effectiveness.
