It was formerly known as TV Works. As a result of the media merger with MediaCorp, the channel ceased transmission on 1 January 2005, as MediaCorp and SPH deemed that the channel had no commercial viability because the English television market was so small. Even before going off the air, the channel's commercial rate was very weak. In 2001, SPH MediaWorks downsized and restructured the channel, and trimmed 73 employees from its workforce of 380. Mr Jamal Hassim, then Chief Operating Officer for TV Works, had resigned that year, leading to the integration of the channel with Mediaworks' more successful Chinese-language channel, Channel U, with both channels being managed by Mr Man Shu Sum, then Chief Operating Officer for Mediaworks.
