William Taylor "Spike" Dykes (born March 14, 1938(1938-03-14) in Lubbock, Texas) was the coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team from 1987 to 1999. Dykes was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame on March 11, 2008.Dykes was hired to be the head coach at Texas Tech in 1986. He would become the first coach in school history to lead the team to seven straight bowl-eligible seasons and to coach the team in seven bowl games. He was the school's first coach to defeat the Texas Longhorns in six different seasons. He earned three Southwest Conference and one Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year honors.
