Ongoing climate change drives the need to adapt to the resulting impacts which affect countries, populations and individuals alike. A step towards enabling climate change adaptation action at European level is the process of development of national adaptation strategies. Considering the importance of the involvement of stakeholders in this process, the present research gathers and analyses views of a wide range of stakeholders belonging to the public and private sectors and civil society in Bulgaria. By the use of an online questionnaire and application of a stakeholder analysis method, three research questions have been addressed concerning the scope, governance model and the barriers and opportunities to national climate change adaptation policies. These have been placed in the broader European context, while considering the specific national circumstances.
