During the long voyage, Winnie falls in love with a young man named George Mclean, and they are soon married. Alan lives in Reno with his wife, Carrie, and both have children that live in the area. Working as Project Manager at present, he has had a few other jobs such as truck driver, security guard, electrician, and worked for 26 years in the Federal Government. He is the Alan in the story of which most is true; Mary, his mother actually died in 1962 in Sydney. The main characters in the story are all real; however most of them are dead. The only remaining uncle is "Dasher" and he lives in Tasmania. For relaxation Alan enjoys going to movies, boating, fishing, ATVing, and traveling with his wife and children when he can. He has started the sequel to this book and has an idea for a third.
