Local laws are crafted to impose order in a community thus, laws should be stated for everyone to understand. However, a local law is also a type of legal discourse that is characterized for its obscure and use of legalese. This book provides a discussion of the stance, lexico-grammatical patterns of verbs, and semantics of verbs in a discourse specifically a local law. It provides an overview of how one writes a local law, legal discourse, from their stance as revealed by the stance markers, how verbs are used to effect the desired mandate as revealed by the lexicogrammar of verbs, and the meaning of the verbs because of its lexicogrammar which are exposed with the use of discourse analysis.
