A product of years of research and calculation that began when Novak Senkovic attended a computer course, where the students were asked to feed the computer a list of items and use a program to sort the items in order. At that time, he had the first edition of the Star Trek compendium. Armed with it and their corresponding stardates, he programmed the computer to sort the stardates from lowest to highest. After, he noticed a pattern forming, as though a system for stardates had been invented. He ended up working on the stardates for all the Star Trek movies. For practicality, he discounted the animated series as part of the official Star Trek continuity. He was fortunate to discover later that the animated series was also discounted by Gene Roddenberry himself. For his system to work, he has discounted many of the unofficial and filmed sources.
