The state of availability of quality teacher in India is a central issue since long. According to District Information System of Education (DISE) of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, there are 2.7 million teachers shortage in Uttar Pradesh alone. Worldwide approximately 27.3 million primary teachers are needed to be recruited. In India, 85 percent teacher education institutions are in private sector where quality control is not a priority. This book is meticulous effort to understand state of teacher preparation in private sector in India. Among selected private teacher education institutions, half of the teacher education institutions did not maintain teacher-pupil ratio, around 12% selected teacher educators did not have qualifications as prescribed by the apex body of education. Almost half of the teacher educators could not use core teaching skills in an effective manner. Only few teacher educators were found proficient in integrating ICT component in their teaching. This book may prove useful for practising teachers, teacher educators, education policy makers, and the scholars who are in the process of writing postgraduate research papers and doctoral thesis.
