This work was undertaken to assess the factors affecting radiation protection within medical imaging departments in Ghana. The study confirms the anecdotal evidence regarding limitations in the provision of good radiation protection in the practice of radiography in the country. Justification in x-ray examinations was identified as problematic. There were no definite referral guidelines and policies in place which contribute to unnecessary imaging practices.
