Formerly Director of the Winthrop-King Institute for Contemporary French and Francophone Studies at Florida State University, and Head of the Department of European Studies, Loughborough University, he has authored and edited numerous publications on the cultural and political dynamics of postcolonialiam in the French-speaking world, including Multi-Ethnic France: Immigration., Politics, Culture and Society (London/New York: Routledge, 2007), and Transnational French Studies: Postcolonialism and Littérature-monde (Liverpool University Press, 2010), co-edited with Charles Forsdick and David Murphy.
