They play in League One, the third tier of the English football pyramid. Their home stadium is Edgeley Park. They are nicknamed The Hatters, although they are usually referred to by supporters simply as County. The Club formed in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers, shortly after merging with a similarly named club, Heaton Norris F.C. and on 24 May 1890 changed their name to Stockport County Football Club with reference to the newly formed County Borough of Stockport.
