BUZZARD BILL SWANSON thought his life was perfect; but life has a way of changing in the blink of an eye, and at sixty-two years of age, Bill is not so sure he can change with it. His life-long friend has just died, leaving him with the responsibility of supporting Charlotte as she must take the reins and run her father's successful horse breeding ranch just outside of Piney Creek, Alberta in 1918. But Charlotte needs more than support. She needs guidance and protection, but Buzzard Bill questions if he has it in him. He has always been a loyal follower, not a leader. Facing the sunset of his life without his hero and best friend, the world he once knew is quickly fading into history. Can he fill the boots of his hero? Can he hold on when the world is falling apart? Can he step up and keep the promises made to his dying friend? The thought of him trying and failing overwhelms him. If he fails, Stonehaven Ranch will fade into history, just as so many other ranches have failed out here in the wilderness; but if he does not even try, his failure is guaranteed.
