Mary Jo Davies is a graduate of history, having earned her Master's Degree in ancient and medieval studies from American Public University in 2018. She spends much of her time researching and writing articles for publication in scholarly journals such as The Saber and Scroll, Military History Chronicles, and Claymore and Shield-and has also contributed book reviews on a variety of historical topics. Although her articles have covered diverse themes-comprising medieval church history as well as various aspects of the social histories of ancient Greece and Rome-her primary focus is on warfare in the ancient world. The essays in this book are lightly edited versions of some of her previously published articles. They investigate warfare from the late Bronze Age of Egypt and the Near East, through the historiographic period of ancient Greece and Rome. While the themes of these essays reveal the changes that took place in warfare within these three periods, the overarching lesson demonstrates the changes that took place in warfare over the course of ancient history-from the late Bronze Age to the period just before the beginning of Imperial Rome.
