Ken Wallentine is the Chief of Law Enforcement for the Utah Attorney General. He formerly served as Investigations Bureau Chief and Administrative Counsel for Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training Division of the Utah Department of Public Safety. Prior to his tenure with the Department of Public Safety, he was the Chief Deputy Uintah County Attorney, where he was primarily responsible for prosecution of violent crimes, sexual crimes against children and narcotics distribution offenses. He has also served as the Special Prosecutor in homicide cases. Active in civic affairs, Ken Wallentine is Chair of the Utah Law Enforcement Legislative Committee. He is a featured writer in law enforcement journals, including Police, Utah Peace Officer, The Prosecutor and the Canine Courier. Ken is a former board member of the Utah SWAT Association. He was a founding member of the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) Legal Advisors Group. Chief Wallentine has been a speaker for the National Center on Counterterrorism and Cybercrime, Oregon District Attorneys Association, Brigham Young University, California Narcotics Canine Association, Governor's Honors Academy, International Police Canine Conference, United States Department of Justice, Utah Humanities Council, United States Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Institute, Santa Clara (CA) County Sheriff's Office, Orange County (FL) Sheriff's Office, Anaheim Police Department, Ventura Police Department, Simi Valley Police Department, New London (CN) Police Department, Connecticut State Police, Phoenix Police Department, Utah Prosecution Council, Governor's Conference on the Family, New Hampshire State Police and numerous other college, civic and law enforcement groups. He serves as a risk management consultant and use-of-force expert for several police departments and sheriffs' offices. Chief Wallentine consults nationally on law enforcement education through Excelsior College and the United States Department of Justice. He has served on the faculty of several courses for the National District Attorneys Association, including the Prosecuting the Drugged Driver and the Lethal Weapon Homicide advanced investigation and prosecution courses. He is a featured presenter at the Train the Trainer professional development courses, teaching creative and humorous training techniques. As the Legal Instructor for the International Police Canine Conference, Chief Wallentine has trained officers in all regions of the nation on police canine use of force and search and seizure laws. Ken is a member of the faculty of Excelsior College of Albany (New York), teaching Criminal Procedure, Organizational Strategies for Public Safety, and Law and Literature. He teaches in the Utah POST Firearms Instructors Training Course, and holds numerous competitive shooting awards. He is the author of police academy curriculum presently in use in numerous academies on officer liability, cultural competence, unlawful racial profiling, use of force, psychological combat skills, and search and seizure. Chief Wallentine was a charter member of the Salt Lake City Police Department Disciplinary Review Board. He was formerly legal counsel to the Uintah County Sheriff and the Sheriff's Canine Unit and was a police canine handler. He is a member of the United States Police Canine Association and the North American Police Working Dog Association, the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, National Tactical Officers Association, and American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers. Ken Wallentine is affiliated with the American Inns of Court, where he serves as a Master of the Bench of America's first Inn of Court and is President-elect of the Inn. He is the author of Criminal Procedure: The Street Cop's Guide (Aspen Press 2005), Preparing and Executing Search Warrants (UPOA 1998) and is a co-author of the definitive text on lobbying and
