Philip Abbott (1944--2019) was a professor of political science at Wayne State University where he taught for 45 years. He was the author of numerous books and articles, including his career treatise Political Thought in America (1991). He was regarded as one of the leading scholars in the discipline of political science and one of the foremost American political theorists.
