Librarianship is a concept that connotes the practices of the Librarians. It is a profession that requires high education and training to acquire the necessary skill to practice effectively. Its education and training is beyond the four corners of the class room this forms the bases why Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is an inevitable tool in the training of Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals. SIWES is a noble idea of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF). It is a skill development programme aimed at exposing and preparing students of institutions of higher learning for industrial work situation they are to meet after graduation. It provides opportunity for students to relate theory to practice thereby bridging the gap that exists between gown and town.
