Pakistan since its creation has lacked strong political institutions. Political parties were also weak and not institutionalized. Thus creating an empty space, that gave some other forces, like individual leaders and interest or pressure groups, an opportunity to fill this gap. Students were one such pressure group who played a significant role in the political process. This book is a comprehensive account of the students' politics in Pakistan. The central idea of the book is that the students were mainly instrumental in the fall of President Ayub Khan. They were on the forefront of the movement for the revival of democracy in the country and provided the energy much needed by the anti-Ayub forces at that time. The book also provides information about the students' response to the major political events, which took place during Ayub Khan Regime. The work deals with historical context as well, in which it examines the political consciousness of the students, the phase of their active participation in the Pakistan movement and the new trends of students' politics after independence.
