The Volume contains written versions of some contributions to the Fifth International Conference on Middle English (ICOME 5), held at the University of Naples in 2005. The Editor: Gabriella Mazzon is Professor of English Language and Linguistics at the University of Cagliari. Her main research interests are sociolinguistics (English as a second language, varieties of English), historical syntax (negative forms), and historical pragmatics (forms of address, modality, dialogue).
