My book based on germplasm evaluation of brinjal and given information usually needed for developing high yielding varieties in a particular species pertains to the extent of genetic variability for desirable traits in the available germplasm. Evaluation of germplasm is the basic tool for identification of important genotypes. On the basis of this investigation it can be concluded that their exists ample variation within the germplasm of brinjal. Genotypes NDB-64, and NDB-65 for round purple fruit and genotype NDB-82, NDB-76, NDB-79, NDB-84 and NDB-86 for long purple fruit may be utilized in breeding programmes. During selection fruits per plant, crop duration and primary branches per plant should be taken into consideration for enhancing the total fruit yield per plant. The crosses between selected genotypes from widely separated clusters are most likely to produce desirable recombinant/hybrids in future breeding program of eggplant.
