The Striped murrel, Channa striatus is an air breathing fish and is well known for its taste, high nutritive value and other medicinal qualities. They are commercially cultured in Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan and Cambodia. However, in India, the culture of murrels is in the stage of infancy due to the lack of seed supply and knowledge of their breeding techniques in captive conditions. Dr.T.Francis obtained his Bachelors and Masters degree in Fisheries Science and his PhD in Aquaculture. He has completed MBA. He is currently serving as Associate Professor and Head at Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu,India.
