This book was devoted to the study and simulation of the characteristics of one-dimensional periodic structures. Our interest was to study the periodic structures, more precisely, the multilayer structures with one-dimensional photonic crystal by proposing a new conception and analysis of these structures. We are reminded in a first place the new classification of materials, the basic concepts related to the periodic structures in particular the photonic crystals: the various types of photonic crystals, their physical and geometrical properties, the concepts of photonic bands as well as the methods of modeling of the periodic structures based on these materials. In the second chapter, we present a theoretical study of the transmission properties of a one-dimensional periodic structure containing alternating layers of positive and negative refractive index media. Subsequently, a selective filter based on the use of a one-dimensional periodic multilayer photonic crystal structure was presented in the third chapter. We ended with the fourth chapter.
