Fetal heart rate recording (FHR) is a key component of monitoring labour and delivery.FHR correlates with the oxygenation status of the fetal brain. If FHR is abnormal, the fetus is at risk of hypoxia or even asphyxia, resulting in respiratory and then metabolic acidosis as it adapts to its decreased oxygenation, which explains the complications in all neonatal systems (cerebral, respiratory, etc.). External monitoring of CFR, widely used in industrialized countries, is generally considered an adequate method of recording CFR during work. FCR analysis during labour is an important element in identifying inadequately oxygenated fetuses, allowing appropriate obstetrical action and providing reassurance about fetal oxygenation to avoid inappropriate obstetrical interventions (instrumental extraction, Caesarean section). The goal of our approach is to contribute to the improvement of fetal monitoring during labour, and we offer this work to assist medical students, midwives and obstetrical residents in their training.
