Ship Design is a challenging, iterative and complex process. In order to improve this process there is a need to estimate the efficiency with which the existing system is working. Presently there are no methods available to establish the efficiency of a ship design project. This book attempts to mathematically evaluate the relative technical efficiency of ship design projects using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) for the first time in the scientific world. In this book, relative technical efficiency of Indian ship design projects has been estimated and the significance of a strong 'project management' team in a ship design organisation has been established. The DEA analysis has distinguished design organisations based on their 'ownership' (Private Vs. Government) and 'priority' accorded by the top management for ship design projects. This book also brings out the 'capabilities' and skill available with the Indian ship design organization undertaking commercial ship designs.
