This book deals with two classes of materials: some nanocrystalline spinel ferrites and Pr and Zn substituted YBCO (123) cuprate perovskites. It opens with the introductory description of studied systems (chapter 1), which includes magnetism and its origin, classification of magnetic materials, properties of nanocrystalline ferrites, discovery of superconductivity, conventional theories of superconductivity and YBCO(123) system as high Tc superconductor. A description of experimental techniques used, are discussed in chapter 2. The main part (author's own work) is presented and discussed in chapters 3, 4, and 5. Chapter 3 reports on structural, magnetic and dielectric studies of a series of Cu-Zn nanocrystalline ferrites and SHI induced modifications in them. The similar studies are discussed for pristine and SHI irradiated Mn-Ca ferrite, in chapter 4. In Chapter 5, study of Pr Substitution at Y and Ba sites and Zn substitution at Cu site in YBCO is discussed. Iodometric investigations, resistivity measurement, magnetization measurement and XPS were used to explore the electronic structure of these systems. Finally salient features of the work are summarized under a separate section.
