Web-based communities have become an important place for people to seek and share expertise and have attracted millions of users, many of whom have integrated these activities into their daily practices. This book present results of the study of the structure of online communities and evaluation of types of users and users' behaviours utilising qualitative methods, statistical and social network analysis. Qualitative methods were used to classify the usage types and categories of web-based communities. Based on these categories, users' behaviours were selected and social network analysis were conducted to explore web-based communities' structures in detail. The initial review and study indicates that while key technological features of web-based communities and social network sites are fairly consistent, the cultures and behaviours that emerge around these communities are varied. Most sites support the maintenance of pre-existing social networks, but others help strangers connectbased on shared interests, political views, or activities. Some sites cater to diverse audiences, while others attract people based on common language or shared racial, sexual, religion or nationality.
