Substance abuse has been on the rise and reached new statistical heights in the past decade. Its prevalence in children and adolescents is more alarming and a topic of concern for all health professionals, besides their own families and social workers. Most forms of substance abuse involve adverse effects, involving typical oral manifestations. As dentists, these oral signs and symptoms could help diagnose a developing habit or dependence caused by illicit drug use. This literature review aims to comprehensively throw light upon the various aspects of substance abuse in young children and adolescents.
