The Austrian supported Sustainable Resource Management Program aims at livelihood improvement and reducing poverty through increased productivity, rational utilization and sustainable management of resources base and capacity building. Since 2008, the program has actively involved in Amhara Region with eight major intervention areas: integrated watershed development, promotion of alternative livelihood options, market oriented livestock development, park infrastructure development, rural land administration, action research and program management. The integrated implementation of program components within three years brought promising outcomes in terms of household income diversification, environmental rehabilitation, community participation and institutional capacity building. Integrated watershed development approach is the major pillar of the program implementation modality. The participatory management and collective program leadership have facilitated smooth implementation of the program. This book, therefore, recognizes the importance holistic approach for successful achievements and assesses successful results achieved so far, and lessons learned for further scaling up.
