A quasi-experiment of before and after was conducted with the geriatric population at risk of suicide attempt, and their family representatives, all permanent residents of the Tamarindo health area. Theoretical, empirical and mathematical-statistical methods were used, with their respective techniques and instruments, all applied on the basis of informed consent. The initial diagnosis showed limitations in the knowledge of the risk factors for suicide attempts in adults over 60 years of age, which led to the design and application of a Preventive Psychoeducational Intervention Strategy to enhance the knowledge of these factors in the elderly, evident risks of suicide attempts, as well as in their families, in order to reduce these self-injurious behaviors in the locality under study. After its implementation, it was possible to enhance the knowledge in 93% of the chosen sample and with it the decrease of the factors of the suicide attempt in the geriatric population.
