Jules Noriac, born Claude, Antoine, or Jules Cairon, was a French journalist, dramatist, writer, librettist, and theater director. Cairon started off as a journalist and columnist for several newspapers. He began at the Corsair in 1850, the Gazette de France in 1851, and the National Assembly in 1853, before becoming editor of the weekly Le Figaro, where he was one of the primary editors. He worked for the Revue fantaisiste, the Gazette de Paris, La Silhouette, the Revue des Beaux Arts, and L'Univers illustre while also serving as chief editor of the Figaro program, the Soleil, and the Nouvelles (1865-66). He also created plays, operetta libretti, and novels under the pen name Jules Noriac. From 1856 to 1869, he was co-managing director of the Theatre des Varietes, followed by the Theatre des Bouffes-Parisiens from 1868 to 1879. Jules Noriac was awarded the Spanish Order of Charles III.
