Cu-10Sn bronze is a commonly used bearing material that requires superior surface properties and has major applications in aerospace and marine industries. By improving the wear resistance, the life time of the component can be increased and hence, the cost of maintenance and the downtime are reduced. This book introduces the Surface Modification Process (SMP), its classifications as well as the importance of SMP in hardening Bronze by surface refining and surface alloying techniques. It illustrates the criteria for selecting an appropriate coating technique for the addition of alloying element and also demonstrates the significance of applying a novel heat source for surface modification. In addition, this book highlights the objectives and justifies the need for developing industrially relevant surface modified Cu-Sn bronze alloys.
