"Surface Displacements is a book of poems from the three-way continental divide in Minnesota by the former Duluth poet laureate, Sheila Packa. The narrative poems are stories of migration about people who arrive or are displaced in the landscape of lakes, rivers, and large open pit mining operations. The geological location of the three-way Divide connects three watersheds that connect to the Mississippi River, the Great Lakes, and Hudson Bay. Prose poems, ekphrastic poems, and narrative poems are rooted in both historical and contemporary Minnesota and Finland"--
