The benefits of the El Paraíso water reserve have little information on the contribution of vegetation cover to the surface water balance. The objective of the study was to determine the influence of forest cover on the surface water balance within the El Paraíso water reserve. The soil water analysis was carried out with the SFA/10 sampling instructions of Agrocalidad. The surface water balance was obtained with the equation: P=ETr+ES+I. The comparison of the values of the water balance components of the coverages was carried out with the T - Student test and the Mann Whitney U test. The mixed forest presented the highest values of soil water properties, with a field capacity of 42.10% and usable water of 19.22%. In the balance components, the total precipitation was 1 695.31 mm. The highest rainfall transfer was in the mixed forest with 85% of the total. It also presented the highest rates of real evapotranspiration and infiltration. The presence of arboreal vegetation significantly influenced the field capacity and water storage, as well as infiltration.
