The main purpose of this book is to show how basal cell carcinomas can be treated in a simple, safe, and effective manner by surgery. The importance of histological confirmation of complete excision is discussed at length. A careful repair according to plastic surgery principles can produce excellent aesthetic results. The technique of simple excision in areas of adequate skin laxity is depicted in detail, and the use of a variety of flaps and grafts to deal with difficult repairs is outlined in 32 diagrams. Clinical examples of the problems in different areas of the face are presented with special emphasis on the long-term results. These form a photographic atlas comprising 65 clinical cases illustrated by 219 large photographs 26 of which are in color. The use of the local subcutaneous pedicle flap is especially highlighted. Some complications of surgical treatment are also considered with tips on how to avoid them and and how to treat them should they occur. This book gives easy-to-follow guidelines for the surgical treatment of basal cell lesions and will be useful to both dermatologists and plastic surgeons.
