After total mastectomy, two immediate reconstruction techniques are most commonly performed. The first uses a myocutaneous flap, either a transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap (TRAM). The second uses prostheses or expanders. Compared to breast reconstruction with autologous flaps, the use of implants has several advantages. This being said, the main difficulty in prosthetic breast reconstruction is the complete coverage of the implant. The purpose of this book is to review the different surgical techniques used in immediate breast reconstruction to achieve complete coverage of the implant.
