In Surveyor, we have a voice attentive to the world we live in. Often religious, but never unworldly, John Roe s poems do not yearn towards heaven, but instead show a deep love of our flawed earth as it is. From the high-running emotions of work life in a surveyor s office, to praise-poems which exalt in the beauty of an orchid, these are poems which both give and deserve respect in daily life. Each is a moment which truly captures the movement of the mind as it flickers from past to present, giving shape to thought in a variety of forms.
