Retired Assistant Chief Jonni Redick was with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) for 29 years. The CHP is an organization with over 11,000 employees of which over 7,000 are sworn officers. She held the position of Assistant Chief in the Golden Gate Division of the CHP, which covers all nine Bay Area counties including the San Francisco California area. In this position, she assisted with the accountability and oversight of 16 field commands with over 1,600 personnel and over 7 million in population. She retired in December, 2017 out of the Valley Division in the Sacramento region where she oversaw eight CHP commands. This division included the 3rd largest communications center in the state which handles over one million 911 calls annually. She had been the incident commander for multiple critical incidents, civil disturbances, mutual aid events, and other high-profile tactical occurrences. Over her career, she worked throughout California including the Ontario, Ventura, Hayward, Stockton, San Jose, and Contra Costa CHP offices, and has held all ranks. She was the first female captain of the Contra Costa CHP Area in Martinez, CA where she worked with 18 allied agencies to collectively provide service to an 802 square-mile region. Her training and instructional background includes many areas of expertise: leadership and promotional development, cultural diversity, procedural justice, implicit bias, and leadership coursework. For over a decade, she instructed first line supervisors, middle managers, and command training within her organization as well. She is a certified California State Personnel Board Chairperson and has participated both as a chairperson and agency representative on promotional examination oral interview panels and in examination development. In addition, she is the CEO of JL Consulting Solutions, LLC, where she is committed to enhancing the public safety and law enforcement industry to effectively serve the complexities of crime issues, community engagement and create a culture of ethical leadership. In an evolving public safety climate, she works to cultivate relationships that will strengthen the trust quotient of leadership by identifying intrinsic intangibles within leadership paradigms. Through her coaching, she endeavors to develop a dynamic set of skills and strategies essential for modern law enforcement professionals and organizations. She is a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), the American Association of University of Women (AAUW), the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA), and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Retired Chief Redick is a graduate of the California Peace Officer Standard and Training (POST) Command College with course work in Enhanced Leadership; Futures Forecasting and Economic Issues; Politics of Change, and Technological and Environmental Issues. She holds a Master of Science degree in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership (LEPSL) from the University of San Diego. She is also an adjunct faculty member for a local community college instructing the next generation of law enforcement and for a private university in California instructing executive leaders in law enforcement and public safety leadership from across the country. Additionally, she is a public speaker and author of Black, White & Blue: Surviving the Sifting.
