Sustainability levels in the Niger Delta Region by two prolific writers represent the first ever concrete attempt to address this very important but long neglected problem. Despite enormous contribution to national development, the level of sustainability in the Niger Delta Region remains a pressing concern to many people. Writing as seasoned environmental experts and academia, the authors main thesis is that the developments in the region since the pre independence era are clear departures from sustainable norms. The level, trend and dimensions of sustainability in the region have not been empirically diagnosed to warrant any policy direction. In essence, this book explores the interface between environmental, economic, social and institutional subsystems of sustainability in the region using empirical evidences. The book provides a scientific analysis of the trend and dimensions of sustainability in the region from 1958 to 2010 and projections to 2020. Factors which influence the trends and dimensions of sustainability in the region are examined while policy imperatives identified.
