The current global energy and climate crisis we are facing today is undeniable. The Ibero-American Shallow Geothermal Energy Network (RIGS) of the Science and Technology for Development Program (CYTED) is convinced that the solution exists and is in our hands. There are many possibilities within our reach to reduce energy consumption and the emission of polluting gases. At RIGS we are fortunate to have experts in different areas related to energy. In addition to researchers in deep and shallow geothermal energy, we work together with specialists in energy efficiency. Those RIGS members closely linked to geothermal (myself included) think that geothermal can be the key on the way to a global energy solution. "He who has a hammer sees only nails", a common expression that could apply to many of us. However, this crisis cannot be solved with a single tool. That is why this document combines shallow geothermal energy and blioclimatic design for the sustainable air conditioning of buildings in Latin America.
