Global warming is one of the crucial challenges of humanity. Increase in atmospheric concentration of CO2 emissions from fossil based industries has contributed to the serious global warming problems. Iron and steel industry is known as the largest energy consuming and CO2 emitting manufacturing sector in the world. Therefore, investigation, development and deployment of alternative energy-efficient iron-making breakthrough technologies along with CO2 capture technologies are receiving high priority to mitigate GHG emissions around 50% by 2050 compared to 2007 level. It implies that the significant rise of CO2 emission for iron and steel production is unpreventable if not any actions do not measure to mitigate CO2 emission. This book proposes a sustainable model for green iron and steel manufacturing in which implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) system is one of the most promising options to utilize fossil fuels continuously without significant influence to the climate change.
