Increasing population pressure on an already degrading land resource has rendered the struggle even tougher. However, the promotion of widespread systematic use of simple and efficient land management techniques require a more holistic approach, taking account of how sustainable land management fits with wider livelihood strategies of poor farmers. Hence, the main aim of this review is, focusing on the possible linkages and interactions between the major underlying causes of land degradation so far, to show the opportunities and options for up-scaling of sustainable land management in the country.
