The book explores the role of bilateral organizations in promoting sustainable development in arid and semi arid areas in Kenya. The book focuses on the role of Semi Arid Rural Development Programme (SARDP), a programme that was sponsored by The Netherlands government through SNV and the Government of Kenya. This programme was situated at what is now called Elgeiyo-Marakwet County in Rift valley province in Kenya. The programme focused on assisting small scale farmers along the Kerio Valley to improve their farming techniques and thus better production. The book focuses on the need for participatory development of all stakeholders through sharing of knowledge, rising of funds and management of resources. This will ensure sustainability of the projects and activities undertaken by all stakeholders.
