The use of sutures is an age old procedure. Sushruta, 'Father of Indian surgery' was the first surgeon to have used suture materials made up of bark, hair and silk in surgeries. The primary objective of dental suturing is to position and secure surgical flaps to promote healing with primary intention. In selection of a suture, a patient's health status, age, weight and comfort, and the presence or absence of infection are as important as the biomechanical properties of the suture. This book is a literature review on "Sutures" where advantages and disadvantages, strengths and weaknesses and various other properties of sutures are discussed.
