Benchmark for Best Practice With its 4 principles and 28 commented recommendations, the Swiss Foundation Code establishes international standards: The Swiss Foundation Code - is applicable to all types and sizes of foundations; - provides an orientation framework for good foundation management; - serves as a useful working tool; - has proven itself in practice since 2005. ≪Switzerland is known for its high density of foundations. Yet, Swiss law says very little about their governance. On the one hand, this absence of a strict legal framework brings more flexibility. But on the other hand, good behaviour benchmarks are desirable. This is why the Swiss Foundation Code plays an essential role as a peer-generated best practice set of standards. Thus, this new, improved edition, must be greatly welcomed.≫ Prof. Henry Peter, Head of the Geneva Centre for Philanthropy, University of Geneva ≪Foundations are essential actors of the civil society. In order to use their full potential for effective and proactive operations in society, internal soundness and efficiency is necessary. Through its continuous adaptation, the Swiss Foundation Code offers a practical and contemporary guidance. I congratulate SwissFoundations to this persistent effort to increase visibility, transparency, and legitimacy of foundations.≫ Max von Abendroth, Dafne Executive Director, Brussels
