Grant McKenzie kam in Schottland zur Welt, hat aber in den vergangenen 25 Jahren als Journalist in Kanada gearbeitet. Zu Beginn seiner Laufbahn war er für eine große kanadische Boulevardzeitung auf dem Deadbody-Beat unterwegs, das heißt, er übernahm den Nachtdienst und hatte die Aufgabe, der erste Journalist am Tatort eines Verbrechens zu sein. Später war er als Chefredakteur und Kolumnist tätig. Er lebt mit seiner Frau und seiner Tochter an der Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, Kanada.
