Food processing industry in India is increasingly seen as a potential source for driving the rural economy as it brings about synergy between the consumer, industry and agriculture by generating employment opportunities in rural fold particularly for women. The objectives were framed to evaluate the performance, motivational factors, institutional linkage and the problems faced by women food processing industry in Palakkad district, Kerala. The analysis shows the strength and weakness of women enterprises engaged in food processing industry. The research findings advocate implementation of quality control system to set up export-oriented business ventures. To boost the overall performance of women entrepreneurs, proper and frequent monitoring of units, training programmes tailored to women entrepreneurs, raising awareness of new beneficiary schemes, financial resources, and new technology were all possible suggestions.
