Excellent achievements have been made in management/treatment of disease conditions through invention of newer drug entities or therapies over the past two decades. Diabetes is growing in today's world at a very high speed and indeed Oral Hypoglycaemic agents are one of the major breakthroughs in this context. But because of short plasma half life & repetitive dosing, this treatment becomes inconvenient and problematic. In the present work, efforts were made to design a biodegradable micro-particulate drug delivery system which promises in maintaining the plasma drug level without repetitive dosing. The primary objective of the present research work was to prepare a long circulating drug delivery system of oral hypoglycaemic drugs for long term management of Type-II diabetes mellitus with improved efficacy by microsphere for overcoming the problems of drug delivery through conventional dosage forms. The proposed micro-particulate drug delivery system of biodegradable polymers wascapable to maintain the blood sugar level for few days, without the need for frequent dosing; decreased side effects as in case of conventional drug delivery and hence increased patient compliance.
