A cousin of Tadeusz's was the notable Polish poet Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer. Since Warsaw was then under Russian rule, and education in Polish was forbidden, in 1892 ?ele?ski left for Kraków, in Austrian-ruled Galicia, where he enrolled at the Jagiellonian University medical school in Krakow.
