It is one of three Taiwanese airports with regular international flights, and is by far the busiest international air entry point amongst them. It is the home base for China Airlines and EVA Air, both of which operate a major hub at this airport. Opened in 1979, the airport was known as Chiang Kai-shek International Airport until the name was changed in 2006.
